I began to answer the questions I felt people would ask. Here are a few:
Why am I asking?
Simple, I don’t have financial ability to hire an attorney. Oh yeah, and I want to go home!
Why do we need an attorney?
The system is inherent with complexities that an inexperienced person is not prepared to labor through alone. I have replied on the experience of other attorneys whom I trusted to know the system but suffered from my naivete. To put it simply, doing this on my own is like trying to do brain surgery on myself. You truly need an expert to fix this situation.
You were found guilty. Why are you still fighting?
Innocent people go to prison every day. Giving up would be like admitting to something I did not do. I am fighting because not only is it my right to have a fair trial, but also the court’s responsibility to have a trial free of defects. I am not only fighting for myself, but for the others who may benefit from my case being heard again. Whhat happened to me should not happen again to anyone.
Why are you asking for so much money?
An attorney once told me that fighting my case was analogous to fighting cancer; it is complicated and costly. Imagine the cost of fighting cancer without medical insurance, that is what it is like to fight in the legal system. Lawyers are a dime a dozen. The good ones, the ones you want helping you when you are in a jam…they cost a lot more.
Please understand that I am fighting, and I need help. I am humbled by the support shown so far, but more is needed. Every amount donated helps; as does sharing my story; and of course, prayers.
